...About: keeping The Dead by Tess Gerritsen

This book was recommended by a friend. I've never read any books by this author, so I thought I'd give it a try.

Now, the storyline is good. You can tell that a lot of research was done to come up with this book. The story telling however, leaves something to be desired. Ask any bookworm and they'll tell you a good book is one where you feel like you're in the story, the images are right in front of you, characters and scenes are clearly describe til you can see it in your head. This book does not have that effect.

The story is about a serial psycho killer who kills and then preserves the bodies, mummification is one way. The preservation process is described, gruesome. But you don't feel a connection to the story and the characters. There were a few moments that I went "Ok, who is this person again?" because I couldn't remember which character is which. That has never happen before.

I picked up another book by this author, and sad to say, it had the same effect. The story is good, but the story telling not so. Won't be buying anything by this author again anytime soon.

...About The Social Network

Image from here
I know what you're thinking "She doesn't even like Facebook!"

So what was I doing watching a movie all about Facebook? There wasn't any movie that I was dying to watch and the other half wants to watch it. So there, zip it.

The movie was not what I expected. Well, actually I wasn't expecting anything because I didn't know what it was about in the first place other than the fact that it's about the founder.

Here's what I think. Mark Zuckerberg was an asshole when the Facebook started. Don't know his behaviour now, but he sure was one when he started. This nerd wasn't after money, he was after recognition, status and most website hits record.

He was blinded by his ambitions, looked up to the wrong people and hurt his friend. He's also a liar, backstabber, ungrateful and arrogant.

Well, I don't know what he's really like in person, but that's what he's depicted as in the movie.

I dislike Facebook even more now.

I wonder if he's still friends with Eduardo?

...About Additions To My Mini Library

Oh yes, one of a few of my favourite thingss.

More books! Oh yeah!

After a marathon of chick lits a while ago. I thought I ought to stay away from bimbo fictional characters for a while before I actually become one.

So picked up some non chick lit stuff.

Mom bought me one of the Tess Gerritsen and Nicholas Sparks for Christmas. Thanks Mom!

I picked up the rest at the flea market. Bargains! Found another Tess Gerritsen book there, so I thought why not.

Will review one of her books after this.

Anyways, have you noticed how bloody thick the Nicholas Sparks book is? I only noticed while I was queuing up at the cashier. "Hmmm, I don't remember seeing this title so thick.."

Then I read what the covers says...... oh no wonder lah...

Imagine that, Large Print. Like insulting my chinky eyes only -_-

Moving on.

Am looking forward to adding this book to my collection. Waiting for it to pop up at the right place. I refuse to pay retail price!

So how many books have you read this year?

...About Mess

Messy, messy,messy.

Everywhere I look is messy. Messiness everywhere.

Table is a mess.
Floor is a mess.
Bed is a mess.

Useless!

I don't understand how some people can be so neat all the time every time.

I know a friend who's super neat. Whenever she comes over to my room back in univ days, if she seats by my table, she'll slowly and unconsciously start arranging the things on my table. She's magic I tell you. She can arrange the most haphazard stuff. She'll fold things up til you can't tell what it is.

I was at her room one time, she opened a drawer, I saw many-many colourful triangles about 3 inches in size. I was like WTH is that? You know what she said? "Plastic Bags" PLASTIC BAGS! The normal plastic bags with handles that you get when you buy things, she's folded them into triangles so she can arrange them nicely in the drawer T_T

I shall put up a picture of it one day.

One day.
Not today.

I have no discipline when it comes to neatness. I'd like to think that I've used up my discipline-ess in other areas. For example.......er.........hmmmm.....wait.......there's.........I'm very disciplined in............ermmm.............

I'll get back to you on that.

...About Death

I don't know if any of you know this, but the internet is abuzz with a new facebook posting/suicide drama.

A 22 year old boy, heart broken after being dumped by his girlfriend of 4 months. Posted his suicide note on Facebook in chinese and in english (imagine that, he translated his suicide note) and posted a 45 minutes countdown before he jumped off a 14 storey building to end his "miserable" life.

T_T

T_T

T_T

Are you serious right now?

Thing is, I can't find it anywhere on the news. Apparently the chinese newspaper has published about him, but, heck, I don't read chinese. So, anyhoo, true or not, to anyone out there contemplating suicide, take a breather, think clearly. Suicide is not the answer.

Over a month ago, a friend of mine from work passed away in a tragic accident. No, it wasn't a road accident, there's more to it, but long story short, something happen and he died because of it.

He only just got established as a Licensed Aircraft Engineer that month, after years of toiling. He just got his first engineer's pay that month. Then he died.

He didn't choose to die. He had his whole life ahead of him. He was going to get married next year.

And now here, we have a 22 year old man who commits suicide because he got dumped.

If only life can be transferred from one body to another.

My friend died because his life was taken away from him.
This 22 year old guy who didn't have to die, gave his life away.

How stupid is that?

If your girlfriend dumps you, don't give away your life, GO GET A LIFE!

Suicide is so not the answer.

...About Breaking Things for A Living

So here I am, wondering what to write to update my cobweb filled blog. It's a public holiday today, and exam day tomorrow. BAD COMBINATION.

So yeah, done my notes, all I have to do now is go through ALL OF IT AGAIN.

JOY T_T

Now, I'm accompanied by the sound of hacking, banging, whacking, cracking, breaking.

A house in the row behind my house is renovating. One of the workers is breaking down a wall. I peeked out my room window and watched. All I could see was bricks creeping out from a wall. (the fella was hitting it from inside, so can't see him)

All I could think was "That sure looks like fun." Cause I sure feel like breaking down a wall right now.

Imagine slamming a sledge hammer against a wall, watching it breaking and crumbling. Almost therapeutic.

I sound like a maniac now.

Ok byez.

...About Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows.

image from here
Having fallen asleep while watching the Half-Blood Prince, I went to watch this one with an open heart and mind bearing no expectations.

I have to say, I'm quite impressed with this one. It stayed true to the book as much as it could. I didn't go "Hey they didn't put the part where...!" There are some scenes that weren't exactly potrayed in the book that were actually given an individual scene in the movie, which I think was a nice touch. Example, the part where Hermione wiped her parents memory, it only got mentioned in the book, not exactly pictured, but they had a scene of it in the movie. But obviously people who didn't read the book would have no idea what she did when she went "Obliviate".

In fact, if you didn't read the book, you would have no idea what most of the spells were! The action scenes were good, not as good as an action movie of course, but it was a good transition from book to screen.

I seriously think non-readers will have a hard time relating all the movies together. Some scenes were not portrayed in the movies because it did not seem vital, but turned out to be important further along the way in the later books. So yeah, some people will be lost.

When Dobby died, I don't think non-readers understood how attached Harry was to the house-elf, simply because it didn't show in the movie.

I wondered at which part the movie was going to end. I think it ended on a nice note, an appropriate scene.

All in all, it was definitely worth the watch. Go ahead and watch, this one is not a disappointment.

...About Sugar Fix

What's your sugar fix? Your ultimate sugar fix. One that you swear by to go on a sugar high but will surely give you diabetes.

This is mine.

ULTIMATE.

I once ate a bar of this a few years back cos I needed the energy to study for an exam. I was bouncing off the walls the whole night til exam time. SERIOUS T_T

There's bullshit, there's serious shit and there's just plain shit. This is SERIOUS SHIT. (I have no idea who the hell came up with that phrase)

This lil bar of heaven used to be my piece of luxury back at school, it costs almost RM4 for one bar! That's like 2 days of lunch money ok, so I didn't get to it have as often as I like.

Now, it's so hard to get it. Seriously, they don't have it at any old super market. In fact I found it while I wasn't looking for it. I went into the store at a Shell station looking for some snack, and there it was on top of the rack, all golden and shiny.

Golden Hokey Pokey Honeycomb covered in Cadbury Dairy Milk, Milk Chocolate.

...About The Next Few Months

Well I gotta say that this is it,
I either make it or break it,
Or if I can't I gotta fake it,

Imma go in with full force,
To survive this collision course,
I can feel my stomach churn,
I don't wanna crash and burn.

It'll be 4 months of study tension,
Not to mention torsion and compression,
Blogging will be in hibernation,
Unless the need arises for a lil relaxation.

So wish me ill or wish me luck,
Shame on you for the ill, thank you for the luck.
AG is signing off,
You can comment or log off.

I never meant it to be a series of some sorts. But seeing how I tend to take pictures of my food when I eat out or when I cook on a whim but never blog about them, every now and then I have a few random snap shots of food loitering in my folder. So, here they are, the 2nd of many more to come.

...About The Devil Wears Prada

The movie and the book.

Ok here's the thing, I've watched the movie gazillions of times (and I obviously love love love it) I don't know, I think I have a thing for shows that has make-overs in it's plot.

Picture from here

So after thinking long and hard, seeing the book in front of me for so many times, I finally decided to shell out the cash and buy the book.

I think the screen play writer for the movie did a hell of a job re-writing the story for the movie. Cos the book, is nothing like the movie. DISAPPOINTMENT. It was - for the lack of a better word - BORING. The only reason I could finish the book was because of my curiosity. I was trying to find the similarities.

The movie is so much more exciting. Better drama, better characters, better crisis. It was just way better than the book.

It's so different, even the main character's personality is different.

For the first time ever, I vote for the movie.

...About Recent Book Buys

I think, every year, the most things that I buy in quantity, is books. What can I say, I'm a boring person whose hobby includes reading >_<

Anyways, bought these 2 books like 2 weeks ago.

The Choice by Nicholas Sparks, which is on my want list. This book is not as good as his other books that I've read. The really heart touching part of the story is towards the end. All in all, okay lar. If you've never read his books, I would say skip this one, read his other books.

The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger. LOVE LOVE LOVE the movie, never read the book, so I finally bought it and read it.

While I was getting these books I asked myself "Oi, do you really need more story books? Aren't there other books that you're supposed to read?" But oh what the heck. I've finished reading them anyways. Let's just hope I don't find anymore books this weekend.

There's another book that I bought, a puzzle book, can't find it now. Thanks to the mess. Oh well.

Happy Reading people.
