...About Adding Friends on Social Networking Sites

How many people on your friends list in a social networking site are actually your friends? 90%? 70%? 50%?

People seem to be adding friends like it's a race to win something. Well I think it's stupid. Here's a simple guide to adding friends on social networking site that I live by. (read: if you're thinking of adding me, read the rules)

Do not add if:
1. Just because we're in the same group.
2. Just because we're in the same company.
3. Just because you've seen me before.
4. Just because you know someone I know (mutual friends WTH, that does not make the feelings mutual ok)

Only add if:
1. We're friends.

2. or we've actually had a real conversation.

And for the love of God, please write a message if:
You're adding me but:
1. Profile picture is not off you.
2. Profile name is not the name I know you by.

Last but not least, don't be offended if I don't approve you. I like to keep my private life private.

Do you think it's appropriate to mix your working life with you personal life?

I for one do not feel comfortable if I know my superior or anyone from work (who I'm not really buddy-buddy with) are viewing my personal pictures. So I don't add them. Period.

The phase of adding people just because, has long passed, I finished high school a long time ago.

So think before you add.

...About Using The Oven For The First Time

We've finally used up the tong of cooking gas and bought a newly filled one. Proceeded to use the oven for the first time (without having to fear if we'll run out of gas half way through)

Nope, no cupcakes or cakes yet, we made roast chicken and potatoes for dinner.

Had them with some blanched veggies with butter.

The chicken was tasty, Aunt Karen marinated them in Lea & Perrins sauce (important ingredient in western food cooking) salt and pepper and honey.

The potatoes, poked some holes in them using a fork and oiled them.

Baked them for about 45 minutes at about 200 degrees Celsius. Put some slivers of butter on the chicken before baking, put however much you like lar.

For the gravy, very simple, we used bottled black pepper sauce available at any supermarkets. First, fry sliced onions until wilted, then pour in two tablespoons of the black pepper sauce mixed with water, once it starts to boil, switch off the fire and set aside. Once the chicken is done roasting, transfer chicken to plate, pour all the juices from the chicken into the black pepper sauce. Put it back on the fire, heat it up and stir, mix about 3/4 teaspoon of cornflour mixed with water and stir into sauce to thicken it. Pour onto the chicken and serve.

Easy peasy. Yum yum.

...About No Bake Mango Cheesecake

Grand Aunt Karen and I made this cake, as we have no idea how much cooking gas we have left (gas oven) we dare not bake anything yet until the current tong has run out and a new one bought.

Very easy cake to make. Just make sure you have enough space in your fridge to chill it!

Recipe taken from 'Favourite Cupcakes and Cheesecakes' by Page One Publishing.

Ingredients:

Base:
90g butter
250g Digestives biscuits, finely crushed

Filling:
200g cream cheese
50g Sugar
2 mangoes (book did not specify the weight, we use average sized ones)
1 and 1/2 tablespoons gelatine2/3 cup thickened cream, whipped

Method:

Base:
1. Melt the butter and stir in the biscuit crumbs. Press into the base of a lined 20cm springform tin. Chill until firm.

Filling:
2. Place the cream cheese and the sugar in a bowl and beat together.
3. Peel, stone and puree 1 mango, add to the cheese and sugar, mix well.
4. Dissolve the gelatine in 1/4 cup warm water, add to the mango mixture, then add the cream.
5. Mix well, spoon into the cake tin and smooth the surface. Place in refrigerator until set.
6. Chop the remaining mango to decorate the cheesecake and serve with extra whipped cream.

Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

...About Papadom

This is the first Malaysian movie that I spent money to watch at the cinema. No wait, yes, it is the first. And I did not regret it.

Rule number 1 in watching Malaysian movies,
If it's not by the late Yasmin Ahmad, Afdlin Shauki or (list to be updated later) then don't waste your time watching it.

Rule number 2, never forget rule number 1.

Let's talk about Papadom. This one is by Afdlin Shauki. I have to admit, I had no idea what the movie was about when I bought the ticket. I was surprised when the movie ended. It was such a good movie.

I was expecting some funny ass movie (I've never watched his other movies, so don't know his style) Turns out, it was such a heartfelt one. And to think the title is 'Papadom', who'd know it's a serious movie (with some laughter here and there)

It's about a father who tries so hard to hold on to the only one he has left because he failed to cherish the other one which he lost.

I know it's no longer showing in the cinemas, but if it comes out on DVD, please go get it, and buy original. Support our local talent.

I'm not gonna describe the movie scene by scene, that's not what I do.

I'm just gonna tell you what I think about it.

It's a good movie, genuinely good. Brings out some almost-raw emotion, could make your eyes water a lil bit. And it definitely makes you think and wonder about what is it that's really important in life.

I think our film industry just might be able to survive.

So That's What I think.

...About Rebelling

Are you a rebel?

Or were you a rebel?

Or have you yet to rebel?

Rebel against what you ask? Oh just about anything and everything in life.

Rebelling against you teachers.
Rebelling against the system of wherever you are.
Rebelling against your parents.
Rebelling against life.

Growing up, I have watched my friends rebel, one by one. The one who used to be a rebel in school has now turned over a new leaf. Those who were to afraid to rebel are doing it right now.

The ones who made so much trouble back in school are now the mature ones in their daily interaction with other people.

The ones who were timid or always do what's right, are rebelling now that they're away from home.

Me? I guess I didn't really have time to rebel. Or am I permanently rebellious? Can't tell the difference. I guess I was too busy trying to please other people or proving myself.

If you want to rebel, do it early in your life.
When your life does not depend on you not rebelling.
When you don't have to worry about your future.
When you don't have to worry about how to get by in life.
When you won't screw up anything major by rebelling.

So That's What I Think.

...About Things You Have to Walk Away From

There are things in life you have to walk away from.  And there are those you just have to tolerate and put up with it day by day for the rest of your life.

But there is one thing a woman should never put up with, the one thing a woman should ALWAYS walk away from. An abusive partner.

Recently, Rihanna the superstar-good-girl-gone-bad came out in the open about what happen the night Chris hit her, he hit her so badly, her face was bruised, swollen, bloody. Yet, after that, she went back to him. But thank God she has walked away.

I watched all her tell-all videos.

I feel strongly about this matter. Because I know more than enough girls who have been through it. Fortunately, the experience is not first hand.

If a guy hit you, once. You put up with it, that's understandable. But if he hits you again, harder than the first time, honey, walk away. Or better still, run as fast as your stilettos allows you to. Don't turn back.

If he hit you once, chances are, HE WILL HIT YOU AGAIN.

Stop thinking who's fault it is.
Stop thinking why he hits you.
Stop making up excuses for him, because he sure did not try to find an excuse not to hit you.

If you're not even married yet, all the more reason to walk out of it right here, right now.

I have a friend who got beat up, she was beat up so badly, only thing left is for her to bleed. But she went back. And she's still there. I hope he doesn't hit her anymore, and if he does, I hope she walks away this time.

It's like cancer, either you've been through it, or someone you know have been through it.

So That's What I Think.

...About Terry Fox Run 2009 Lake Gardens

This is the third year in a row I've attended! Kudos to me!

And that's all the exercise I'll do this year. ;p hahahahah.

Pikcahs!!

This year it's back to black. I personally prefer black shirt. Slimming ain't it?

Let's look at the crowd...

Okay okay, wrong picture to depict the crowd.

Like last year, it was hosted by Yasmin Yusoff, but no Ida Nerina this year.

Here we are getting ready for warm ups.

Pictures of people in awkward poses (they were following the aerobic routine unlike me)

After all the huffing and puffing trying to keep up with the steps shown by people from Celebrity Fitness, we were finally flagged off!!

First few minutes into the run....(it's not a race, it's a run, or in my case, walk)

Look at the crowd.....

Half an hour later......

HAHAHAH dwindling in numberssss

The Point of No Return....

Right after the sign...

ehehehe....went for the advance route again this year.

And every year, these are the people I look forward to snap pictures of...

But this year, we have something extra special...

Starbucks Baristas in their apron!! ahaks. chun.

I call this, classic Terry Fox Run Scene...

I saved the best for last...

awwwww

Lots of new people this year, cos when Yasmin asked how many have done this before, not many hands went up.

See y'all next year!!

...About Finding Out Your Worst Suspicions Are True

Now I know why I have been a mad and angry person for the past few years.
I keep flipping out over the smallest things.
My old friends would know that I don't normally get angry easily.
Nowadays I get angry at the snap of a finger.

Today it has presented itself to me.
What made me the angry bitch that I am today.

I'm at a place where I don't really want to be in the first place.
I'm here because I can.
I'm here because I thought it's not a bad place to be anyways.
But the future is so vague now.

So so vague.
I'm so disappointed.

You put you future in other people's hands.
People who were so sure about what they were doing, they thought they were the best.
But along the way, the plans keep changing.
You realize they didn't really plan anything yet.
There's nothing concrete to look at.

Then you think, is this really happening?
Can this actually happen?

Then you find out, it's not happening.
At this point of time, they are not sure when it can happen.
They are running out of ideas on how to make it happen.

It's like, there's no light at the end of the tunnel.

But in my case, they haven't even built the tunnel yet.

But at least now, today, after all the questions, I can exhale.

I know where we stand.

Nowhere.

I'm going to live like I'm dying.

I was angry because I could easily be someplace else doing things I'm actually passionate about instead of forcing myself to built this tunnel that keeps collapsing. And that people who actually want to be there aren't even bothered to try and built the tunnel.

So That's What I Think.

...About Being The Best (in things that matter)

No, you don't have to be the best in everything you do.
As long as you do what you are supposed to do.
As long as you get things done.
As long as you actually do it.

No, no one is going to give you an appreciation certificate if you did your best and came out on top.
No one is going to give you a pat on the back and say "Good Job Mate!"
No one might even notice you did your very best.

Someone might notice and hate you for it.
Someone might hold a grudge on you for putting the bar that much higher.
Someone might snide you for being such a competition.
Someone might bitch about you for being a perfectionist.

But,
You do it anyway.
You strive to do the very best that you can.
You go the extra mile just to make it that much extraordinary.
You do it the long way just to get it right.

Why?

Because no one is stopping you.
Because no one tells anyone to not be the best that they can be.
Because it makes you happy.
Because you know you won't be satisfied if you didn't try your best.
Because it matters to you and the people dear to you.

And just simply because you can.
You can be the best that you want to be.
Just be.

So That's What I Think.

...About Bento #16

This is like by far the ugliest bento ever. And all my other bentoes are not that pretty in the first place >_<

On the left, 3/4 of an orange. It was super masam! Could not finish it. But it sure woke me up frommy sleep inertia! On the right, assortment of mini sandwiches, jam and honey, and a mini yam filled pau.

This time I tried a new bag...

Pretty cute, looks like the small cloth bag the japanese robbers in cartoons carry at the end of a stick ahaha.

Til the next bento!

...About Starbuck's Mooncake :Berries & Cheese

Yup, thaaaaat's the flavour. Doesn't it sound so weird? I mean berries? and cheese? Seriously? Come on! Berries and Cheese in a mooncake? Get out of here!

Seriously, the flavours they come up with these days, most of the time it makes me cringe just hear their names.

I received this mooncake from a close friend of mine. I thought Starbucks would come up with a "Mocha Cream Mooncake with Espresso Shot" or something like that. But this?!

I was very-very skeptical about how it's gonna taste. I wasn't gonna try it alone and have to finish the whole thing by myself. So I shared it with the gang whom I knew will at least try it once, just to know what it tastes like.

So we cut it up, and braced ourselves.....

Here's what I was expecting, a gag-gingly super sweet burst of flavor in my mouth with a weird mixture of strong cheese.

Turns out, it wasn't as bad as I expected it to be! No, it is NOT the best tasting mooncake, but it was surprisingly ok. It was not super sweet at all, and somehow, the taste of the cheese actually blended in nicely with the berries.

However, I wouldn't buy it though. Just to give it a try, ok lar, but to actually buy on every mooncake festival? Nah! I'll stick to my classic single yolk lotus paste thank you very much!

So That's What I Think.

p.s: sorry about the colors of the pics.
